2LP, Compilation, Reissue, Remastered, Stereo
We have to start with a personal favorite and my introduction to deep disco/funk. Sweet Music holds a lot of value for me for reasons I will get into in a bit, but I first need you to listen to a few songs to get the feel of this record. My personal favorites are "Omoge", "Excuse Me Baby", & "Sweet Music".
This record was introduced to me at a Khruangbin concert, as I was waiting for the band to begin their set, they played what I believe to be "Excuse Me Baby". At the time, I was in a phase I like to call "In search of the funk" (This phase birthed a playlist called "Environmentalism", August's Playlist of The Month, so check that out while you're at it) so I had to pull out the shazam & add this to my playlist.
As my search continued, I took a look at the entire album and noticed its 2018 release date. I found out the compilation was released in 2018, but the original releases began in 1982 with "Excuse Me Baby (Dedicated to the D.J.s Of the World). Dizzy K. Falola's career extended through 1988 until he became a born again Christian and gave up his synth-funk career to continue as a gospel artist.
With the weight the record held, I did not hesitate to purchase my own copy, at what I remember to be about $90. Did I overpay for it? Maybe. Would I overpay for it again? Absolutely. The record is now selling for 60GBP, so you don't have to overpay for it if you decide to add it to your collection. But this pillar in my collection is close to priceless.
