Julien Baker, Phoebe Bridgers, and Lucy Dacus formed Boygenius after booking a tour together, but their collaboration had been in the works for longer. Through tours, performances, and chance encounters, they developed friendships and got to know each other. Their music features gut-wrenchingly personal yet relatable verses and spare, lilting melodic arrangements. Baker's slow builds and taut vocals add urgency to "Souvenir" and "Stay Down," while Dacus' "Bite the Hand" roils with slow-burning layers of guitar. Bridgers' "Me & My Dog" features a simple open-road riff and recounts a relationship that couldn't help but fall apart.
