McAllen-based band New Berlin, described by the Austin Chronicle as "Angular garage-pop that sounds like an artifact from the DIY 80's," has released a new album titled "State of the Union''.
Recorded in Austin, TX, by Matt Gerhard (Spoon, Parquet Courts, Ximena Sariñana) and featuring Vince Delgado (Knife in the Water, A Giant Dog), the 2023 LP follows 2019's "Magnet" and 2016's "Basic Function".
Reflecting on themes of authority, impermanence and social instability, “State of the Union” includes references to Jimi Hendrix, Bad Brains and The Velvet Underground, among others, and features cover artwork by legendary Texas painter Vernon Fisher.
